The National Negawatt Exchange is a platform that allows utilities and energy efficiency agencies to benefit from energy efficiency as reflected in the creation of “negawatts” (i.e.; new megawatts that do not need to be generated due to the impact of energy efficiency work).

We are working to establish a monetary value for the negawatt (as per a Federal Energy Regulatory Council official ruling in 1989), and thus create a marketplace for negawatt sales that will override the need for a carbon tax, while also reducing the complexity of energy efficiency work for utilities that are being expected to help reduce greenhouse gases.

Ultimately the objective is to subsidize energy efficiency upgrades for building owners while reducing greenhouse gases.
