  1. Interesting discussion while flying from Philly to Ithaca today. Not many people know that I am also the founder of the Voluntary Socialist party, whose political platform is based on the idea that if we promote social benevolence as a high-level virtue, there will be enough social giving to compensate for severly reduced taxes. And everyone will feel better about themselves.

It is in the best interests of each of us – the best interests of our national security to take care of the poor – to care for the mentally ill, and our war veterans – to try to keep people from turning into terrorists. We take these things as part of our DNA because we evolved from animals, but we do have the capability to evolve to a higher level. Yes, you can expect that the VSP will not truley develop for another 2000 years, but no sense in waiting til the last minute to start talking about it! Every once in a while, someone else starts talking about it – like it was a new idea – without even realizing that I’m the founder of the party!
